Chief of PR and Press Division of Riau Regional Police, Police Grand Commissioner Sunarto, stated that Riau Regional Police would send Forensic Laboratory Team to investigate the explosion of CPO storage tank in Lubuk Gaung subdistrict, Sungai Sembilan district, Dumai city. "This investigation is conducted to find the cause of the fire. We will deploy the forensic team to the crime scene to investigate the fire incident," Chief of PR and Press Division said on Friday (18/6/2021). The tank was filled with fatty matter (purified CPO) owned by SDO, Ltd. "The fatty matter is the final product from biodiesel that contains methanol and methane gas. These gases are very flammable", Sunarto said. In this incident, two employees are dead due to severe burns. One victim even suffered 90% burns. Another one suffered 60% burns. The victims are Zainal Abidin and Untana. The Lubuk Gaung residents of Sungai Sembilan district, Dumai city, said that they were startled by a loud bang due to the explosion which leads to fire at SDO, Ltd. complex. The fire occurred in one of the storage tanks filled with fatty matter (purified CPO). The fire was spreading fast. The local firefighter squad and other officers are trying to put out the fire.
