inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed that rice was one of the elements that reduced monthly inflation in September 2025, with deflation recorded at 0.13 percent and a deflationary contribution of 0.01 percent.

"Historically, every September, from 2021 to 2024, rice generally experienced inflation. Meanwhile, in September 2025, it experienced deflation of 0.13 percent and contributed to deflation of 0.01 percent," said BPS Deputy for Production Statistics, M Habibullah, on Wednesday (10/1/2025).

He stated that the month-to-month (mtm) rice deflation in September marked the second deflation to occur in 2025. Previously, rice commodity deflation occurred in April 2025.

In addition to rice, several commodities in the food, beverage, and tobacco group that acted as inflation dampeners in September 2025 included shallots, tomatoes, garlic, and cayenne pepper.

Based on historical data for the past three years, he said that these four commodities experienced deflation every September, except for shallots, which experienced inflation in September 2024.

Shallots contributed the largest deflationary contribution, namely 0.12 percent. Tomatoes contributed 0.03 percent, while garlic and cayenne pepper each contributed 0.01 percent.

"The development of inflation in shallots, tomatoes, and cayenne pepper commodities is quite fluctuating. Meanwhile, garlic generally experiences inflation at the beginning of the year and deflation starting in the middle of the year, and inflation returns at the end of the year," he explained.

On an annual basis, general inflation was recorded at 2.65 percent year-on-year (yoy), with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising from 105.93 in September 2024 to 108.74 in September 2025.

By expenditure group, annual inflation was primarily driven by the food, beverage, and tobacco group, which experienced inflation of 5.01 percent and contributed 1.43 percent to inflation. The commodity with the largest contribution to inflation in this group was red chilies.
