inp.polri.go.id – Lysychansk City authorities asked Ukrainians in the area to evacuate, Monday (27/06/22). This warning came when Russian troops were targeting the city.
"To the people of the Lysychansk City community, considering the real threat against you, we urge you to evacuate immediately," Luhansk Governor Serhiy Gaidai said in a telegram, quoted by Reuters.
Gaidai said the situation in Lysychansk was "very difficult" but gave no details on how many people there were.
As reported by Reuters, about 100,000 people lived in Lysychansk before Russia invaded Ukraine. Previously, Gaidai had stated that Lysychansk was facing severe damage due to the attack by Russian troops in the city.
Lysychansk now is a fighting area for Russian-Ukrainian troops. The city and Severodonetsk are the two key cities for Russia to control the Luhansk region.
However, the city of Severodonetsk was captured by Russian troops on Saturday (25/6), making Lysychansk becomes the sole focus of the Kremlin attack.
Russian troops tried to enter Lysychansk from the south and surrounded the city. Russian troops also launched air strikes on the city.
