"I am grateful that the Indonesian National Police were able to deploy security personnel to secure the election for our country," Tolchenov said when met at the Russian Embassy in Jakarta on Sunday (9/20/2026).
Security for the voting in Jakarta was carried out by deploying police personnel at several locations. Police also established security posts and guarded the perimeter of the Russian Embassy and polling stations, he said.
Police personnel were also on standby inside polling stations, including around voter registration desks. This security measure was implemented to ensure the voting process proceeded safely and smoothly.
In addition to Jakarta, the Russian legislative elections were also held in Denpasar, Bali. The Russian Embassy then requested police security support to safeguard the voting process at both locations.
"We asked the police to maintain security at the two polling stations opened in Jakarta and Denpasar," he said.

Tolchenov estimates that up to 500 Russian citizens will vote at the Russian Embassy in Jakarta. This number is subject to change, as Russian citizens do not require re-registration to vote and are not obligated to vote.
Meanwhile, the number of voters at the Russian Consulate General in Denpasar is estimated to be higher than in Jakarta. This is because approximately 98 percent of the approximately 40,000 Russian citizens in Indonesia reside in Bali.
The election for members of the lower house of the Russian Parliament will be held concurrently with regional head and regional legislative elections over three days, September 18-20, 2026.
In these elections, Russian citizens can vote for candidates from 11 participating political parties. According to Sputnik, a total of 20,700 legislative seats and regional leaders will be elected in this election.
Polling stations for the Russian elections in Jakarta and Denpasar were open for 12 hours, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time. After the polling stations closed, the vote counting was conducted directly by the election committee.
