SAR Team Recovers Victim from Drown Ferry in Bali Strait

Inp.polri.go.id - Banyuwangi.  A joint search and rescue (SAR) team recovered the body of a male passenger from the sunken passenger ferry KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya in the southern waters of the Bali Strait on Sunday (6/7/2025).

With this discovery on the fourth day of search operations, the total number of confirmed fatalities has risen to seven, while 30 survivors have been found and 28 people remain missing.

According to Rear Admiral Endra Hartono, the Commander of the Koarmada II Naval Combat Task Force, the victim was found at 10.41 am local , approximately 6 nautical miles from the original site where the ferry sank on 2 July 2025.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was discovered face-down, wearing a navy blue shirt and shorts. The body of the victim was taken by ambulance to Blambangan Regional Hospital for formal identification.

On Saturday, the SAR team—assisted by the Ministry of Transportation’s Navigation Division—reported locating an object resembling the wreck of KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya at a depth of 40 to 60 meters.

As of Sunday, the wreck’s position had shifted approximately 800 meters from its original location.

The ferry was carrying 53 passengers, 12 crew members (ABK), and 22 vehicles at the time of the incident.
