Inp.polri.go.id - Mataram. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that approximately 4.2 billion liters of rainwater poured down on Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), within a span of less than six hours on Sunday (6/7/2025).
"We estimate that around 4.2 billion liters of rain fell in Mataram within a very short period," said Nuga Putrantijo, the Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Climatology Station, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He said that rainfall volume was measured using Agroclimate/Automatic Weather Station (AAWS/AWS) and Automatic Rain Gauge (ARG) equipment. The rainfall in Mataram qualified as heavy rainfall on a daily scale (≥100 mm/day) and extreme rainfall on an hourly scale (≥50 mm/hour).
Heavy rains from noon to evening on Sunday caused significant flooding across parts of Mataram City, affecting three districts: Sandubaya, Mataram, and Cakranegara, as well as six urban villages: Swete, Bertais, Kekalik Gerisak, Pagutan Permai, Majeluk, and Gomong.
Ahmadi, the Head of the West Nusa Tenggara Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said that intense rainfall triggered river overflows that inundated residential areas.
The flood event also caused a retaining wall at the Sandubaya Integrated Waste Disposal Site to collapse, blocked roadways with fallen trees, and swept away one vehicle.
Residents are advised to remain cautious during extreme weather.
