Social Affairs Ministry's Logistical Aid Reaches Drought-Hit Puncak Regency Residents

The Ministry of Social Affairs has provided crucial logistical aid, encompassing food, clothing, tents, and blankets, to the residents affected by the drought in the Agandugume and Lambewi districts of Puncak Regency, Central Papua Province. "All the aid has reached the community. The supplies stored in both Timika and Lapangan Sinak warehouses have been successfully distributed," affirmed Acting Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims Adrianus Alla, as quoted by Antaranews on Tuesday (1/8/23). He emphasized that the government's efforts to provide essential logistical aid to the drought-affected regions in Puncak Regency starting from July 26, 2023. The transport of 17,1 tons of aid unfolded through a series of stages, with the aid being transported via Indonesian Air Force helicopters and chartered planes to Sinak Airport in Puncak Regency. On July 26, 2023, 2,7 tons of support was transported in five flights, followed by an additional 4,7 tons delivered in four flights on July 27, 2023. On July 28, 2023, 3,9 tons of logistical aid were transported in three flights, followed by the delivery of 2,7 tons in two flights on July 29, 2023, and 3,12 tons in three flights on July 31, 2023. The government's aid comprises 4.000 packets of ready-to-eat meals, 4.000 packets of children's food, 2.000 packets of ready-to-eat side dishes, 500 rolls of tents, 25 cases of sardines, 32 cases of corned beef, 83 cases of sausages, 15 cases of beef floss, 18 cases of biscuits, 3.000 sets of children's clothing, 4.000 sets of adult clothing, 4.000 pieces of adult trousers, and 4.000 blankets. The aid package also includes two tons of sardines and biscuits donated by PT Freeport. He further explained the challenges faced during the deployment to the drought-affected regions in Puncak Regency, as it grappled with weather and security conditions. (fa/pr/nm)
