Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. Serdang Bedagai Sub-regional Police in North Sumatra have arrested three men suspected of smuggling 25 undocumented Indonesian migrant workers  from Selangor, Malaysia, to Indonesia.

The suspects, identified as AM, AC, and S, played different roles in the operation, with some acting as agents and others as crew members, according to Serdang Bedagai Police spokesperson First Zulfan Ahmadi on Tuesday (4/2/2025).

Authorities intercepted the boat in Sei Nagalawan, Perbaungan, after receiving a tip-off. Initially suspected of carrying narcotics, the vessel was found transporting the illegal migrants instead.

“Upon inspection, no drugs were found, but the boat was carrying 25 undocumented workers along with a boat operator and two crew members,” the spokesperson confirmed, as reported by antaranews.com.

Police seized a wooden boat, Rp 2.9 million in cash, and 300 Malaysian ringgit. The suspects face human smuggling charges under the Immigration Law, carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
