Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Seven inmates facing drug charges escaped from Salemba Detention Center in Central Jakarta early Tuesday (12/11) by breaking through the bars of their cell.
“The inmates, all involved in drug-related cases, are suspected of escaping by forcing open their cell bars,” said Agung Nurbani, the Head of Salemba Detention Center, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Following the escape, detention center officials conducted a thorough inspection of the cells and searched the surrounding area.
Agung also reported the incident to the Correctional Division of the Jakarta Ministry of Law and Human Rights and to the local police.
“We are ready to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to investigate this case, including questioning staff,” he said.
Agung added that the detention center, the Directorate General of Corrections and the police, have been pursuing the escaped inmates.
