inp.polri.go.id - Papua. Papua Regional Police confirms there was a miscommunication that led to the burning of a school in Sinak by the Armed Criminal Group.

The Head of Papua Regional Police Public Relations Division, Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady explains that the incident stems from a miscommunication during a stone burning ceremony held by Elpis Tabuni Supporting Team at 13.45 WIT in one of their election campaigns in Gigobak Village.

During the event, there was a miscommunication between the organizing committee and the Sinak-based armed group who were overseeing the event.

“Which then sparks into confrontation with both sides throwing each other with stones. People from both parties were injured due to the incident,” says Benny on Thursday (10/10/2024).

It was said that the armed group of Kalenak Murib was extorting money from the Elpis Tabuni Supporting Team. However, the request was declined, leading to both parties involved in stone-throwing conflict.

“As of now, Sinak Sector Police personnel are taking anticipatory steps to prevent people from getting further harmed by the incident,” concludes Benny.
