inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Police arrested six people suspected of being involved in a brawl between groups of youths near Manggarai Station, Tebet, South Jakarta, on Sunday (10/18/2026). Police are still investigating the involvement of each individual in the incident, which was sparked by the throwing of firecrackers.
"We have only arrested six people; we will investigate further," said South Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief Senior Superintendent I Putu Yuni Setiawan to reporters in Jakarta on Monday (10/19/2026).
Yuni explained that the riot began when several groups of youths allegedly provoked people using firecrackers. The situation then escalated as a kiosk was reportedly set on fire.
However, the incident ended quickly after police personnel, along with the Indonesian National Military (TNI) and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), arrived at the scene to control the situation.
According to Yuni, the situation was successfully handled. There were no injuries or fatalities in the incident. Traffic flow in both directions returned to normal after the brawl was brought under control.
"Follow-up actions are currently being taken to address this issue. We hope that similar incidents will not recur in the future," he said.
To prevent similar incidents, the police, along with related parties, plan to add monitoring posts in the area. This effort will also involve local community leaders to strengthen surveillance and maintain security in the area.
The police hope these preventative measures will reduce the potential for brawls and create a safe and conducive environment for the community around Manggarai Station.
