The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) revealed that the student suspected of carrying out the 7 November 2025 explosion at SMA 72 high school Jakarta had been actively accessing an online “true crime community,” raising fresh concerns about digital pathways to youth radicalization. 

The blast, which occurred during Friday prayers, injured multiple students and teachers and caused widespread panic.

“For the SMA 72 case, Densus 88 found that the suspect accessed a group called TCC, the True Crime Community,” BNPT Chief Commissioner General Eddy Hartono said on Tuesday (18/11/2025), as cited by antaranews.com.

He explained that the attack reflects “mimetic radicalization,” where youths imitate previous acts of violence to gain a sense of notoriety. BNPT is now working with the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, KPAI, the Social Affairs Ministry, and psychologists to design appropriate rehabilitation for minors exposed to harmful online content.

Police said the child remains too weak for questioning at the Police Hospital. Investigators continue examining digital evidence and coordinating with child-protection agencies.
