inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono urged regional governments to improve and update data on the poor following a child suicide in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), which was allegedly triggered by economic problems and limited education costs.

He stated that accurate and proactive data collection by regional governments is key to ensuring that social assistance from the central government is distributed effectively and according to community needs.

"I ask regional governments and social services agencies to proactively collect data on underprivileged citizens so that the government can intervene with assistance that meets the community's needs," said Agus on Friday (2/6/2026).

He emphasized that valid and up-to-date social protection data from district and city governments is crucial to the effectiveness of assistance programs implemented by the central government.

"Because the data comes from the district governments. If the data is inaccurate, the state could be late in addressing social problems in the community," said Agus.

Regarding the situation in NTT, the Vice Minister Agus stated that President Prabowo Subianto has prepared strategic measures through the People's School Program to address the issue of access to education for children from low-income families.

"Specifically for NTT, this is where the President ordered and created the People's School program to address these issues," explained Agus.

According to him, the People's School Program is designed to ensure that children from poor and extremely poor families continue to have access to education without the burden of financial issues.
