The Soekarno-Hatta Health Quarantine Office in Tangerang, Banten, has officially reinstated health standards for international travelers following global reports of Hantavirus in accordance to a World Health Organization (WHO) report regarding three cruise ship passengers who died from the virus.

"We have implemented preparedness measures at Soekarno-Hatta. First, through the health declaration in the SatuSehat application, which helps us assess flight risks. Second, arrivals are monitored via thermal scanners and visual observation for symptoms," said Naning Nugrahini, the Head of Soekarno-Hatta Health Quarantine Office, on Monday (11/5/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

If a passenger is deemed a "probable" case after an initial medical evaluation, they will be transported via specialized infectious disease ambulances to an infection center for isolation and laboratory testing. These ambulances are equipped with decontamination systems to prevent cross-contamination.

Currently, extra surveillance is being applied to direct flights from countries with identified cases, including the United States, Argentina, Uruguay, and Panama. 

Naning reminded travelers to maintain strict hygiene protocols, noting that Hantavirus is typically transmitted through contact with the urine, saliva, or droppings of infected rodents.
