Police Senior Superintendent Komang Suartana, the Head of Public Relations Unit for the South Sulawesi Regional Police, confirmed the readiness to deploy tens of thousands of officeres to secure the 26,357 polling stations on 14 February 2024. He explained thaat  the police officers assigned to secure polling were from South Sulawesi Regional Police, specifically designated, commonly known as BKO,  to various sub-regional police and sector police units. The BKO personnel from the South Sulawesi Regional Police are prepared and tailored to meet specific requests from sub-regional police units facing shortages in personnel, he added. "Bulukumba (Sub-Regional Police) has submitted a request, and Mobile Brigade units are on standby. Furthermore, several sub-regional police units have sought additional personnel, prompting preparations with the specific number exceeding a thousand," the spokesperson said. He emphasized the focus of Chief of the South Sulawesi Police Inspector General Andi Rian R. Djajadi on three regions needing special security attention, namely Wajo Sub-Regional Police, Bone Wajo Sub-Regional Police, and Soppeng Wajo Sub-Regional Police. Assurance was given that South Sulawesi is categorized as a safe zone for the elections, with a confirmation of no additional personnel deployments from the INP Headquarters. "South Sulawesi remains a green zone. Therefore, there are no extra deployments from the Indonesian National Police Headquarters. All additional deployments originate from the South Sulawesi Regional Police and the Mobile Brigade," he said. (ar/pt/hn/nm)
