Investigators from the Directorate of General Crime Investigation of the Yogyakarta Regional Police are collaborating with criminal experts before questioning artist Butet Kartaredjasa, reported for alleged defamation against President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, on Sunday (4/1/2024). Police Senior Superintendent FX Endriadi, the Director of General Criminal Investigation, confirmed that they have sought input from several experts to clarify the allegations of mild defamation against the artist. Butet Kartaredjasa is under police investigation for reciting a rhymed speech suspected of containing insults against President Jokowi. Expressing dissatisfaction with the content that likened Jokowi to an animal, members of the Pro-Jokowi (Projo) volunteer group filed a report against Butet Kartaredjasa with the Yogyakarta Regional Police. In the report, Butet Kartaredjasa is charged under Article 315 of the Criminal Code for Mild Defamation with a maximum prison sentence of 4 months and 2 weeks or a fine of IDR 4,500. (ar/ri/hn/nm)
