South Sumatra Police Arrest Illegal Coal Smugglers, Seize 88 Tons

Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police arrested three men involved in smuggling 88.2 tons of illegal coal in Ogan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra, on Sunday. Superintendent Bagus Suryo Wibowo, the Sub-Director of Crime Investigation at the South Sumatra Police, disclosed on Monday (18/3/2024) that the investigation began with vehicles suspected of transporting illegal coal in the area. The team discovered a Hino truck with license plate number B 9604 BYU carrying 22 tons of coal from an illegal mining site. Another truck with identical documents was found transporting 30 tons of coal from the BSD stockpile in Lawang Kidul, Muara Enim, to Cilegon, Banten. The third vehicle was transporting 30 tons of coal from a stockpile in Tanjung Agung, Muara Enim, to Cilegon, Banten. The three suspects have been detained for questioning and are charged under the Mineral and Coal Mining Law No. 3 of 2020, with a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp100 billion.
