Southern Kalimantan Customs Destroys 5 Million+ Illegal Cigarettes

The Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) overseeing Southern Kalimantan destroyed a staggering 5,171,210 illegal cigarettes seized throughout 2023 in South and Central Kalimantan. Dwijo Muryono, the Head of the DJBC Regional Office in Southern Kalimantan, said on Tuesday (26/3/2024) that it also destroyed 1,788.95 liters of ethyl alcohol-containing beverages and 4.86 liters of liquid e-cigarettes. The confiscated items, estimated at Rp7.50 billion in value, resulted in a state loss of Rp4.44 billion. In 2023r, the DJBC handled 219 cases of excise violations. From January to March 2024, they addressed 119 cases related to customs and excise violations. Muryono emphasized that these actions underscore the DJBC's role as both a community protector and revenue collector, ensuring societal safety and securing state revenues. Violators face prosecution under the 1995 Excise Law, as amended by Law No. 39 of 2007, for offenses such as the use of counterfeit excise labels and improper application or absence of excise labels.
