Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar.  The Badung Sub-regional Police in Bali investigated the cause of a fire that broke out at Kerobokan  Prison in Badung Regency, Bali on Tuesday (26/3/2024) at 4 pm local time. According to Second Inspector I Ketut Sudana, the Head of Public Relations Section at Badung Police, the fire engulfed an old, unused building known as Tirta Gangga Block in Kerobokan Class II A Prison, resulting in no casualties. "The cause of the fire is still under investigation," he said, as reported by antaranews.com. Mat Ropin, a witness who won the tender from Tax and State Auction Office (KPKNL) Denpasar, reported that the fire started while he was supervising workers welding in the eastern part of the old building. He was counting wood being removed from the former Blok Tirta Gangga building. He recounted hearing a worker's shout, alerting him to the fire inside the building. He immediately directed his team to dismantle the contents while he fetched water to extinguish the flames. Komang Suparta, another witness, was overseeing demolition work when he received a report of the fire. He quickly rushed to the scene, observing the intensity of the flames. He promptly contacted the Badung Fire Department for assistance. At 4.15 pm, five fire trucks arrived and worked to extinguish the fire. By 5 pm, the fire was under control, but cooling operations continued. Sudana estimated the loss to be around Rp200 million. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
