Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. A Member of General Election Commissions (KPU) Idham Holik says presidential and vice-presidential candidates who still have the status of ministers do not need to resign from their positions as long as they have permission from the president to take leave. “The leave could be applied by the candidates who still have the status of minister during election stages,” says Idham quoted from Antara on Wednesday (10/18/2023). Idham explains the election activities include registration, health checks, determining candidate pairs for the 2024 presidential election, drawing lots and determining serial numbers for candidate pairs, and campaigning. Other than minister level officials, Article 15 of KPU regulations Number 19 of 2023 also regulates other state officials to not necessarily resign when running for presidency. The state officials mention are president, vice-president, chair and members of People's Consultative Assembly, chair and members House of Representatives, chair and members of Regional Representative Council, Governor, Vice Governor, Regent, Deputy Regent, Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Idham also conveys the regulations on leave stated in Article 36 paragraph 1 Government Regulation (PP) Number 32 of 2018, that state officials could leave for one working day per week during the election campaign.
