The Jakarta Metro Jaya regional Police confirmed Monday (24/11/2025) that Alex Iskandar, the man accused of murdering six-year-old Alvaro Kiano Nugroho, died from an alleged suicide inside a police counseling room at South Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police headquarters early Sunday.
“He is suspected of committing suicide inside the counseling room, not in a detention cell,” Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto said in an official statement on Monday (24/11/2025), as cited by antaranews.com
South Jakarta Police explained further that the suspect had already been in custody when he died.
“He died while already under detention,” South Jakarta Police Chief Senior Senior Superintendent Nicolas Ary Lilipaly told reporters at the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Command Post.
Alex, who married the victim’s mother in 2023, had been identified as the alleged killer after Alvaro’s body was discovered months after the child went missing in March 2025. The case remains under investigation, including unresolved questions over the suspect’s death and deleted CCTV footage near the victim’s home.
