inp.polri.go.id - Palu. The Mobile Brigade Corps of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police is strengthening efforts to extinguish forest and land fires that have occurred in several areas of the province.

"We continue to work with relevant agencies to ensure the fires are controlled and prevent them from spreading. We are also continuously monitoring areas suspected of having fires," explained the Head of Public Relations of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Achmad Muhaimin, Tuesday (9/8/2026).

Achmad stated that mobile brigade personnel were deployed to assist in monitoring and handling fires, along with relevant agencies. The forest and land fires were reported in Palu City, Banggai Regency, Tojo Una-Una Regency, and Parigi Moutong Regency.

A number of locations are located in hilly areas with steep terrain. Furthermore, thick smoke from the fires has hampered visibility for road users in the surrounding areas.

In handling the forest and land fires, personnel are using firefighting equipment adapted to the terrain.

Officers also conducted sweeps and cooled the area after extinguishing the fire to ensure no embers rekindled, especially in areas filled with dry bushes and vegetation.

Based on hotspot monitoring in Central Sulawesi, 73 points were recorded. After verification, eight points were declared fire hotspots, while the other 65 were not.

Commissioner Achmad Muhaimin urged the public to increase vigilance and avoid activities that could potentially trigger fires, especially in dry conditions.

"We remind the public not to burn trash or burn land, and not to throw cigarette butts carelessly, as they can trigger fires," he concluded.
