Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Sunarto has been elected as the Chief Justice of Indonesia's Supreme Court (MA) for the 2024–2029 term, succeeding M. Syarifuddin. The decision was made during a Special Plenary Session on Wednesday (16/10/2024).
Sunarto secured a decisive victory, receiving 30 out of 45 votes. He surpassed fellow candidates Haswandi, Soesilo, and Yulius, who garnered four, one, and seven votes, respectively.
Out of the 44 valid votes cast, two were invalid, and one was an abstention, as reported by Antara News.
In his acceptance speech, Sunarto emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles within the Supreme Court. Outgoing Chief Justice Syarifuddin underscored that leadership roles are temporary and called for unity and support within the judicial community.
