Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. Surabaya Metropolitan Sub-regional Police Chief Senior Superintendent Luthfie Sulistiawan has issued a decisive "shoot-on-sight" order against motor vehicle thieves, who threaten public safety or resist arrest.
Speaking at a recovery bazaar on Wednesday (21/1/2026), the Chief instructed his Criminal Investigation Unit to exercise firm, measured force to curb rising vehicle theft across the city.
"I have ordered my officers not to hesitate. If perpetrators endanger the lives of officers or the public, shoot them," Chief Luthfie declared, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The announcement coincided with the return of over 1,000 recovered vehicles to their rightful owners. To ensure integrity, the Chief guaranteed that all vehicle retrieval services are free of charge, promising to penalize any officer soliciting fees.
Complementing this hardline enforcement, the police distributed 200 free anti-theft alarms to residents. This "dual-track" strategy of lethal deterrence and community prevention aims to uncover local theft syndicates while restoring public trust in Surabaya’s security.
