Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian surfing athlete Rio Waida has earned a coveted spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics following an impressive performance at the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games 2024 qualifiers in Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
He secured his Olympic berth by finishing second in Repechage 10, scoring 10.93 points, and advancing to Repechage 11 in the event as reported by antaranews.com
"This marks Rio's second Olympic entry, a testament to his remarkable talent and dedication," said Arya Subyakto, the Head coach of Indonesia's national surfing team, said on Sunday (4/3/2024)
Rio's path to the Olympics was not easy, as he had to navigate through the Repechage rounds after exiting the main round. Despite the challenges, the 24-year-old Indonesian-Japanese surfer fought to secure one of six men's slots available in Repechage 9.
Now, with his spot secured, Rio aims to make a splash at the Paris 2024 Olympics, hoping to replicate his success from winning silver at the ISA World Surfing Games 2022 in Huntington Beach, California, USA.
