Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Ibu, located on Halmahera Island in North Maluku, erupted on Sunday (4/3/3034), sending a column of volcanic ash soaring approximately 800 meters from its summit crater.
According to Axl Roeroe, an observer at the Mount Ibu Observation Post, the eruption occurred at 8.07 am, with the thick ash column drifting southward and southwestward, as reported by antaranew.com.
"The eruption was detected on seismographs," he said.
Authorities at the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) advised people to be cautious of volcanic mudflow in rivers originating from Mount Ibu and to avoid activities near the volcano.
Currently under Level II alert status. Mount Ibu ranked as the second most active volcano in Indonesia, with a recorded 21,100 eruptions, in 2023.
Standing at 1,325 meters above sea level, Mount Ibu is a stratovolcano with a 1-kilometer-wide summit crater and a depth of 400 meters, surrounded by a 1.2-kilometer-wide outer area.
