Inp.polri.go.id - Kupang. Following the recent violence against Papuan students in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police Chief Inspector General Johanis Asadoma said the actions of certain organizations' members did not represent the wider community in the province.
"This was the action of a small group members who overacted, but I emphasize that it does not represent the people of NTT," he said on Monday (4/12/2023.).
He acknowledged the unjustified intimidation of Papuan students and promised legal action, including summoning and questioning members of the organizations involved.
"We need time to understand each member's role in order to take appropriate legal action," Chief Johanis said.
He expected that the incident would not escalate tensions between NTT and Papuan communities, promising strict legal action and pledging to ensure the safety of Papuan students in the province.
"We will provide security guarantees for Papuan youths in NTT," the general said.
The riot occurred during a peaceful demonstration by Papuan students in Kupang on Friday and drew condemnation from various quarters, including the Papuan community.
