Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Online Gambling Task Force has blocked over 8,000 keywords linked to illegal gambling websites in an intensified crackdown on online betting.
“From 4 to 20 November 2024, we blocked 1,361 keywords on Google and 7,252 on Meta platforms,” Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said on Thursday (21/11/2024)
She emphasized the challenge of working with major tech companies like Google, Meta, and TikTok, which have their own internal guidelines.
“We’re pushing them to comply with Indonesian law. While gambling may be legal elsewhere, it’s prohibited here. Keywords accessible from Indonesia must be blocked,” Minister Meutya said.
The ministry has sent formal requests to major platforms and is collaborating with telecom operators and internet service providers (ISPs) to strengthen enforcement.
The task force, formed on 4 November 2024 and led by Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, involves multiple agencies, including the National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN), Bank Indonesia, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Officials have also frozen bank accounts tied to online gambling and are expanding coordination to ensure compliance across the digital ecosystem.
