Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesia National Police (INP)’s counter-terrorism unit, Densus 88, arrested eight suspects linked to the Indonesian Islamic State (NII) across four provinces on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent Aswin Siregar, a Densus 88 spokesperson said on Thursday (21/11/2024 that the arrests took place in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, and West Java.
Among those detained was NAA, a commander in NII’s Sumatra-based faction.
“NAA participated in training camps to prepare paramilitary forces and attended the NII anniversary in West Sumatra,” said Chief Aswin, as reported by antaranews.com.
In West Sumatra, four suspects were arrested, identified as JN, ER, IS, and SW. JN, a local commander, and ER, the group’s treasurer, were involved in training and recruitment. IS and SW played key organizational roles, attending NII events and promoting its radical agenda.
Two suspects, DYT and MA, were arrested in South Sumatra for their leadership roles in the NII’s regional faction. Meanwhile, SY, detained in West Java, served as the national leader and was implicated in weapons procurement and military preparation.
Authorities seized documents outlining NII's radical ideology. Aswin urged public vigilance, warning of the group’s covert efforts to spread extremist views.
