inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the use of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), can open up opportunities for new job creation.
Coordinating Minister Airlangga explained that the AI industry requires a large workforce. For example, in the data collection sector, this sector requires 10,000 workers.
"So, in one Ai company, they may only focus on data collection as there would be no Ai without data collection. These companies usually need around 10,000 workers. So in short, technology always opens up new job opportunities," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (9/24/2025).
He revealed that global investment in AI is projected to reach US$100 billion, or around IDR 1.6 quadrillion, with companies like Meta also preparing large funds. He wants Indonesia to become an investment attraction for global technology companies, including in the development of data centers.
He also highlighted the potential for ASEAN's digital economy, which is estimated to reach US$1 trillion, with Indonesia contributing 40 percent.
By 2030, that value is expected to rise to US$2 trillion, with Indonesia contributing US$600–700 billion.
He believes Indonesia must develop a large pool of digital talent to become more than just consumers, but also active participants in the digital economy ecosystem.
"We don't want AI-based jobs to be left to Bangalore (India). So we are now in a race to develop this sector domestically," he said.
The government is striving to improve the quality of human resources in the digital sector, including through various Tech X digital talent exchange programs with Singapore.
