inp.polri.go.id - East Java. The investigation into the fire that engulfed the KM Mutiara Sentosa II in the waters north of Sumenep, Madura, is still ongoing.
The East Java Regional Police's Water and Air Unit Directorate suspects discrepancies in the data on the ship's passenger and cargo manifests.
These suspicions of discrepancies were reinforced after investigators received conflicting statements from witnesses questioned in the field.
The Director of the East Java Regional Police Water and Air Unit Directorate, Senior Superintendent Arman Asmara Syarifuddin, revealed that investigators have questioned dozens of witnesses to determine the exact cause of the fire and to reconcile the official manifest data from the ship's management with the facts on the ground.
"To date, investigators have conducted intensive questioning of 22 witnesses regarding the fire on the KMP Mutiara Sentosa II," said Arman Asmara Syarifuddin on Wednesday (8/26/2026).
