The police have arrested the driver of a double cabin vehicle that crashed into a retail gasoline seller, sparking three fires at a shophouse in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, early Sunday (14/4/2022). The fire killed seven residents, one was critically injured after trapped in a shophouse.
"We have secured the driver. We are currently still examining the witnesses," said the Samarinda Police Chief (Kapolresta Samarinda), Commissioner Ary Fadli when contacted by Kompas.com, Sunday.
It is suspected that the driver was exhausted and lost control and crashed into retail gasoline in front of the shophouse, Ary explained.
After the collision, sparks appeared and burned three shop houses that lined up along the crash site.
"Based on our initial investigation, the car caught fire until it spread to the shop," he explained.
Based on the results of the examination, said Ary, the driver was a mechanic who was delivering the vehicle. "We are still investigating the case, after that we will hold an open case, if the examination goes up to the investigation stage, then we will determine the suspect," he asserted.
