Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The joint military and police teams are struggling to evacuate three gold miners killed by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) near Kali I, Yahukimo Regency, Papua, due to harsh weather and ongoing security risks.

“Weather remains the main obstacle. Heavy rains make it difficult to access the site as rivers overflow,” said Brigadier General Faizal Ramadani, the Head of Damai Cartenz Task Force, on Wednesday (1/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

He also noted that attacks and shootings by KKB members continue to hamper evacuation efforts.

The attacks occurred in late September when two miners were killed in Bingki on 21 September 2025, and three others were shot near Kali I on 22 September 2025 . The bodies of the Bingki victims, Desen Dominggus and Marselinus Manek, were recovered on 26 September 2025. The KKB unit responsible is reportedly led by Kopitua Heluka.

Authorities are prioritizing the safe retrieval of the remaining miners while maintaining heightened security measures around the area.
