Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. An Indonesian Military (TNI) soldier of Yahukimo military command was killed in an attack by an armed criminal group (KKB) in Dekai, Papua Pegunungan Province, on Monday morning (16/6/2025).
Spokesperson of Cendrawasih Military Command Colonel Candra Kurniawan said that the victim, a chief sargeant, was shot and assaulted with a sharp weapon while traveling from Dekai Regional Hospital to his military post. His body was later found near Kali Biru Bridge in Seradala District at around 10.45 am local time.
The motive and identity of the attackers are under investigation.
Yahukimo Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Zeth Salino said that while the security situation remains relatively stable, police and military forces remain on high alert. Civilian activities are continuing as usual in the area.
Yahukimo is part of the newly established Papua Mountains Province, a region that has seen frequent incidents of violence involving separatist groups in recent years.
