Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate of Registration and Identification of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps reaffirmed that only the police are authorized to issue driver’s licenses (SIM).
The statement aims to prevent fraud and illegal issuance of SIMs by unauthorized parties.
“Only the INP has the authority to issue SIM, as clearly regulated in Law No. 22 of 2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation,” said Brigadier General. Wibowo, the Director of Registration and Identification, on Monday (15/6/2026).
Article 87 of the law specifies that SIM must be issued by the INP and supported by an integrated information system. Brigjen Wibowo stressed that SIM is not just an identity card but a state document proving driver competence, registration, and identification.
He urged the public to be cautious of misleading offers outside official Polri mechanisms.
“Any document issued by other parties cannot be considered a valid SIM under Indonesian law,” Chief Wibowo added.
