Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps has committed to a transparent and objective investigation into the multi-train collision that occurred at East Bekasi Station on 27 April 2026.
The incident, which resulted in 16 fatalities and dozens of injuries, is currently being analyzed using a scientific investigation framework.
Brigadier General Faizal, the Director of Law Enforcement, said on Tuesday (5/5/2026) that the investigation involves multiple stakeholders to determine the root cause of the tragedy.
"We are looking at all factors, including potential human error, vehicle conditions, and infrastructure facilities to identify any malfunctions," he explained in Jakarta, as cited by antaranews.com.
The complex accident began when a "Green SM" taxi stalled on a level crossing due to an electrical failure and was struck by a Commuter Line train. The impact caused a subsequent KRL train bound for Cikarang to perform an emergency stop at East Bekasi Station, where it was then rear-ended by the Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity train.
Chief Faizal noted that the lack of proper gate barriers and personnel at the level crossing contributed to the initial accident. While the investigation is ongoing, He emphasized that the focus remains on preventing future tragedies through improved infrastructure and safety awareness.
