Inp.polri.go.id - Sidoarjo. Search and rescue officials said the condition of students trapped under the rubble of Al-Khoziny Islamic boarding school in Sidoarjo, East Java, has grown increasingly critical as falling concrete slabs have squeezed their space.

“We found one victim still able to respond to voices, but the position is extremely narrow. The collapsed floor has sunk by 10–12 centimeters, leaving little room for movement,” said Emi Freezer, the Head of Operations Direction and Control at Basarnas, during a press briefing on Tuesday (1/10/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

Rescuers described the collapse as a “pancake structure,” making access extremely difficult even with advanced equipment. Of 15 identified points, eight showed no response while seven victims remained alive. Heavy machinery is on hold to avoid further shifts that could endanger survivors. Instead, teams are digging small tunnels to reach them.

Basarnas confirmed two victims were rescued on day three, leaving 13 trapped. 

“Every life is precious. We will do everything possible,” Emi said.
