Inp.polri.go.id - Manado. Two passengers have died following a fire aboard the KM Barcelona V ferry in the waters off Talise Island, North Minahasa, confirmed Rear Admiral Teguh Prasetyo, Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla)Head of Central Zone on Sunday (20/7/2025).
"This data comes from the Serei Naval Base, and will be updated as more evacuees are accounted for from other locations," he said, as reported by antaranews.com.
A total of 294 people have been rescued, with figures expected to be updated by relevant agencies. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
KM Barcelona V ferry was en route from Melonguane Port in Talaud Islands to Manado Port when it caught fire near Talise around 2 p.m. local time. Quick collaboration between Bakamla, North Sulawesi administration, local police, the navy, the Search and Rescue (SAR) team, and transportation officials enabled quick evacuation.
