Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the arrest of two Indonesian citizens by Macau police for allegedly working outside the terms of their visas. The pair were suspected of operating an unlicensed restaurant.

“After being questioned by local police, both have been released while awaiting the next legal process related to their case. They have since resumed work as migrant domestic workers,” said Judha Nugraha, the Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens , on Tuesday (12/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Under Macau law, foreigners working in violation of their visa conditions face fines ranging from 5,000 MOP (around Rp 10 million) to 20,000 MOP (around Rp 40.2 million) and possible deportation.

The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong will continue monitoring the case and providing necessary assistance. Media reports state the two were arrested on 2 August 2025 for allegedly running a restaurant in an apartment since July 2024.
