Inp.polri.go.id - Sukabumi. Two Saudi Arabian tourists drowned at Karangsari Beach, Palabuhanratu, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Thursday (1/8/2024).
The victims were identified as father Adel Bajahar (54) and son Ghassan (9) from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ghassan was found dead when rescuers arrived while Adel survived, according to antaranews.com.
“The deceased has been evacuated by the joint SAR team from Balawista Sukabumi and the Sukabumi Police’s Water Police Unit,” said Sukabumi Sub-regional Police Water Police Unit Chief Senior Inspector Tenda Sukendar.
According to police reports, Adel Bajahar and his son were vacationing at Karangsari Beach and decided to swim around 3.10 pm Initially, they swam near the shore but gradually ventured further into the water.
While they were enjoying the sea, a large wave suddenly swept them out to sea. Seeing his son being pulled away by the current, Adel attempted to help but was unable to reach him due to the distance and exhaustion. He managed to reach the shore, almost unconscious.
Balawista and the Water Police Unit found Adel in a weakened state and were able to stabilize him. The rescue team soon located Ghassan’s body.
His body has been transported to Palabuhanratu Regional Hospital for an autopsy. Adel’s condition is now stable, though he remains traumatized by the incident.
