Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said on Thursday (1/8/2024) that the upcoming Ibu Kota Negara (IKN) Airport will not be restricted to VIP and VVIP passengers but will also cater to the general public.
“During discussions with President Jokowi, we considered broadening the use of the airport beyond just VIP and VVIP flights,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Minister Budi Karya explained that the change aims to maximize its functionality and better serve the wider public.
“This change will ensure more equitable distribution of air traffic and economically optimize the airport's use,” he asserted.
To implement this, a revision of the existing Presidential Regulation (Perpres) is necessary, as the current regulation designates the airport as serving only VIPs.
The IKN Airport will feature a terminal area of 7,350 square meters and a total airport area of 347 hectares. With a 3,000-meter-long runway, it can accommodate large aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A380. The terminal’s design will integrate local cultural elements and environmental considerations.
