inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Responding against abuse experienced by Islamic Boarding School students in West Barat, the The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) requested that the approach to educating students through violence to be erased.

“They, the school management parties such as the teachers and dormitory managers, are responsible from the student entering the school to their interactions with all individuals. They have to make sure that the school management runs well,” says the Chair of KPAI, Ai Maryati Solihah on Monday (10/7/2024).

In her statement, she said that a positive discipline approach in educational institutions to teach their students needs to be implemented so that violence against them would not be happening.

She further said that the education process needs to pay attention to students' rights, including non-discriminatory behavior, and the right to grow and develop. It is known that the victim was allegedly doused with chili water by the wife of the head of the Islamic boarding school.

"Based on her confession, the perpetrator did this because she was upset that the victim often smoked in the school environment and often committed violations. We continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Religion and Islamic mass organizations that oversee the Islamic Boarding School to create a child-friendly school environment," she concluded.
