inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo says Indonesia has the potential to become the new economic power in Asia along with India and China.

He saw that the world now is entering the age of Asia, where there is an economic shift from the western countries to Asia.

“As we all know, now we are entering the age of Asia. There are shiftings from the western countries to Asia, the economic growth are all shifting towards Asia and there would be three new economic powers in Asia, India, China, and us, Indonesia,” says Jokowi on Tuesday (10/8/2024).

However, Jokowi notes that to become an economic superpower country, there are many challenges that have to be overcomed.

“Remain careful in becoming a superpower economic country as we would face many challenges, there are many requirements that we have to pass. Thus, it is also important for us to remain optimistic,” says Jokowi.

Such challenges are global economic slowdown and geopolitical tensions that create global economic uncertainty.

"I think we all know that the global economic slowdown is estimated to still be at 2.7-2.8 percent on average and we should be grateful that Indonesia is still growing above 5 percent. There is also increasing geopolitical tensions, such as the ongoing Ukraine war and the beginning of the Israel-Palestine war. There are also new conflicts that arose such as Israel-Lebanon plus Iran with Israel. The uncertainty of the world economy is increasingly unclear," explained President Jokowi.

Another challenging problem is climate change as he noted that the issue will continue to haunt Indonesian progress for the upcoming years.
