The Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi says that the ministry continued to restrict the space to move for online gambling perpetrators with takedowns and sites block. “We want to make sure the space or ecosystem of the online gambling is unsafe for them. Let them make the sites over and over again, because we will continue to fight them off,” he said quoted from Kominfo official page on Monday (9/18/2023). The former Vice Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration explained that until September 7th, 2023, Kominfo has taken down 971,285 content and online gambling sites. The operation also found 1,931 accounts allegedly connected to the online gambling. He emphasized all efforts to compound the online gambling sites from operating. “We will surround them all, from their equipment all to everything that are related to the online gambling sites. We have also cooperated with Bank Indonesia to tackle the issue of their paid system, and OJK to monitor their bank activities. If every payment platform has been secured, what could they do?” said Budi reassuringly. Moreover, he acknowledged that the online gambling perpetrators will try to find another way to commit their criminal actions although the government has narrowed their space. “We acknowledge that we are facing the perpetrators who are in hiding behind their high-tech,” says Budi. For this, he asked every member of the community to soundly campaign anti-gambling movement and reminds the other that gambling is an illegal act in Indonesia that has its own legal consequences.
