Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) plans to conduct weather modification operations over Jakarta and surrounding areas to reduce the risk of flooding caused by continued heavy rainfall.

“BNPB will carry out WMO, focusing on Bogor, Bekasi, Tangerang, and Jakarta,” said Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Isnawa Adji on Monday (7/7/2025).

He added that the Jakarta administration continues to monitor cloud formation, particularly over South Jakarta and East Jakarta, and is coordinating closely with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to assess the urgency of the operation.

“We will wait for BMKG’s latest forecast. BNPB will start first, and BPBD may follow if necessary,” Isnawa noted, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Separately, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo emphasized prioritizing dredging of canals on the city's outskirts to prevent overflow during heavy rains.

Although originally a national project, the canal is now maintained by the Jakarta administration and has been identified as a flood source if left unmanaged.

The Governor also warned of potential tidal flooding (rob) within the next 1–2 days due to rising sea levels combined with heavy rainfall.

To mitigate the impact of flash floods, Jakarta’s Water Resources Agency has mobilized 202 pump stations with 605 units in total,  100 mobile pumps in each of the five regions
dozens of small floating pumps and 202 heavy equipment units for dredging.

The capital experienced a rare “triple flood” event on Sunday night, caused simultaneously by tidal flood, rain runoff from upstream, and local rain.
