Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait said he may cancel the proposed subsidized housing design with a 14 square meter floor area if public feedback is not favorable.
“If it doesn’t receive positive responses from the public, I’ll cancel it. End of story,” he said over the weekend, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The 14 m² one-bedroom unit mock-up, displayed at a mall in Jakarta, was intended to gather public sentiment on minimalist subsidized housing concepts.
“This is just a draft. We’re testing the waters. There’s no final decision yet,” he added.
The proposed 14 m² house stands on a 25 m² land plot. Minister Maruarar emphasized that if the design violates any existing housing regulations, he would consult with his Director General.
Under the existing regulation, subsidized houses must have a minimum floor area of 21 m² and land size of 60 m². The new draft ministerial decree suggests a minimum building size of 18 m² on a 25 m² plot.
Aside from the 14 m² design, the exhibition also showcased a 23.5 m², two-bedroom unit with a 26.3 m² land plot at Plaza Semanggi.
The Minister stressed his openness to public opinion and emphasized that no final decision has been made.
