inp.polri.go.id - Bandung. The West Java Regional Police have dismantled an international syndicate of baby trafficking that has been operating since 2023. Six toddlers have been rescued as a result of this operation.

Head of Public Relations for the West Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Hendra Rochmawan, revealed that five of the toddlers had just arrived at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters from Pontianak after traveling via Cengkareng. Meanwhile, another toddler had been secured from the Greater Jakarta area.

According to Hendra, 12 suspects were also arrested in this operation, estimated to have trafficked approximately 24 babies. He explained that the suspects had different roles in the syndicate.

"Some acted as initial recruiters of the babies, even from when they were still in the womb. Others were responsible for caring for the babies, housing them, and even creating false identity documents such as birth certificates and passports. They were also involved in the process of shipping the babies, which were planned to be sent to Singapore," he explained on Tuesday (7/15/2025).

The police are still investigating the babies to be sent to Singapore, with plans to collaborate with the International Relations Division (Divhubinter). Most of the babies are from West Java.

"This case itself began with a report from a parent who reported a child abduction, and we followed and developed the case. Based on the suspect's statement, 24 babies are suspected of being involved. So far, we have identified one in Tangerang and five in Pontianak, who were scheduled to be sent to Singapore. We are continuing to investigate to find the other babies," explained the official of West Java Regional Police.
