Inp.polri.go.id - A COVID-19 booster shot is now recommended for high-risk individuals, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), said Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama, the Honorary Chair of the Indonesian Pulmonologists Association (PDPI) on Thursday (5/6/2025).

“The current WHO recommendation is to receive a booster one year after the last dose, primarily for high-risk groups like the elderly and those with severe comorbidities,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com.

The recommendation comes amid rising COVID-19 cases in countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Malaysia in late May. The Ministry of Health has issued a circular urging local health offices to remain vigilant.

Tjandra emphasized the need for consistent epidemiological and genomic surveillance to track cases, deaths, and virus variants. He also reminded the public to maintain clean and healthy living habits.

“There’s no need to panic, but we must stay alert,” he said, noting 17 confirmed cases in Jakarta, with 15 in South Jakarta and two in East Jakarta.
