Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Directorate General of Customs and Excise will exempt import duties on personal belongings brought back by Hajj pilgrims starting 6 June 2025. The policy, based on Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 34/2025, applies to both regular and special Hajj pilgrims.
“This is a form of appreciation for Hajj pilgrims,” said Customs Office Director of Communication Nirwala Dwi Heryanto during a media briefing on Wednesday (4/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Regular pilgrims will receive full import duty exemption. Special Hajj pilgrims are allowed duty-free items up to USD 2,500 FOB per arrival. Exceeding that limit will incur a 10% duty and VAT, while income tax is waived.
The policy also covers gold jewelry and zamzam water, as long as the items are for personal use. Items deemed non-personal will face standard import duties and taxes.
Customs Office noted this exemption will not significantly impact state revenue, which saw only Rp 83 billion from passenger goods in 2023–2024, or 0.0003% of total Customs Office revenue.
