In addition to extinguishing active hotspots, prevention and mitigation measures in vulnerable areas are also being maximized to prevent fires from spreading or emerging in new areas.

South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, made this statement after attending the Istisqa prayer with the South Sumatra Provincial Government at Griya Agung, Palembang, Tuesday (8/25/2026).

Sandi stated that collaboration between all parties is crucial in controlling forest and land fires in South Sumatra. Collaboration with the regional government, the Indonesian National Military (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (INP), relevant stakeholders, and the community continues to be strengthened in addressing potential forest and land fires.

"The collaboration is extraordinary. We are maximizing prevention efforts. We are extinguishing any that are still burning. We will also mitigate any that are in front of us to prevent them from catching fire," said Sandi.

According to him, the handling efforts are being carried out comprehensively, prioritizing prevention, extinguishing, and law enforcement. To date, 17 people have been named as suspects in cases related to forest and land fires.

Sandi also stated that some cases have been resolved, while several others are still being processed. Law enforcement continues to run alongside efforts to prevent and handle hotspots on the ground.

"Hopefully, once we work together with the High Prosecutor and the Governor, everything will be fine," he said.

Regarding field management, Sandi explained that there are still areas that require attention. Therefore, extinguishing hotspots and mitigating areas at risk of fire continues with all relevant stakeholders.
